New Year - New Update

Well, we are off to a descent start in a new year! I have updated some of the links here on my blog space, and am finalizing the updates to my personal website DurbinDigital.com.

I am trying to get myself really motivated to rebuild my portfolio. Every time I think about it, I get a wee bit depressed. When my portfolio was stolen, I lost 3 1/2 years of my best, most recent work. It is really hard recovering from a loss like that, because employers want to see your work. Without your work, you can't get a job, because you can't prove your talent without your work.

Well this is the year I will take my work to the next level, and build a portfolio to be proud of.

I have picked up teaching a few more classes at the local community college, I am working on getting more digital scrapbooking things coordinated and running, I am also finishing up final details on my personal site (as I had mentioned above), and lastly I am devoting a number of hours per week to building a new portfolio, which means lots of art!!!

My motivational tool that I will be using for inspirations is the very large community of artists at ConceptArt.org . They have awesome numbers of activities and contests going at all times, and the topics are broad enough that the imagination has a lot of room to play! I am very excited in this new adventure, and I look forward to sharing my progress in the near future!

Project Update

Ok, so it has been a very long time since my last post, and it has been pure chaos. We had a cancer scare in the family, a really horrible car wreck, and lots of good things blooming as well. I will begin teaching at WCC this summer (I am soooo excited), I finally have the start up for my web site (DurbinDigital.com), I have been doing some small freelance projects with some really great and fun people, and last but not least the animation project.

On a sad note, the animation project has come to a stand still, due to the inability to get past a specific issue, that is pretty much needed for later on in the story, but some team members are having problems understanding the intent behind "this issue".... so the project has come to a screaming halt, until further notice....

As a team, we will be picking up other projects, probably geared more toward commercials, or small animation projects for other things.

Anyways, I think I might remove myself from the chaos, and try to get some kickass stuff accomplished to put into my website gallery. I have soooooo many ideas wandering aimlessly in my head, that really need to hit the paper before I go insane.

Til next time!

Weeks in Review!

Sunday October 22, Marcellis and I spent about an hour discussing character points and possibilities, I typed up an email about what we discussed and sent it off to James and Rachel... Then I spent about 3 hours over the course of the week, chatting on IM to Rachel clarifying story, character, and BG components.

Sunday October 29, I joined in on the group meeting for an hour and spent an hour and a half on IM racking Rachels brain clarifying aspects of our little community and their environment... and over the week have spent 45 minutes on maps and half an hour typing descriptions into my computer for later use.

And tomorrow I am meeting James and Rachel around 1:30 to pick up my software programs and discuss more on the story and characters.... TBC!

TIME Spent Over the Last Couple of Weeks

Ok, so last Sunday, Oct. 15th we had our first online meeting, from 4pm to 6:15pm... Then I spent close to 6 hours on yahoo chat with Rachel, clearing up details and getting more info. I'm not going to count the time spent on getting my scanner bugs and computer problems worked out because that is a never ending issue.... I have spent 2 1/2 hours on our world map, and another hour on researching super big trees, for the environment. I have about 1 1/2 hours into the "notebook" (I will explain more on the "notebook" later) I also sent out emails to Rachel with the world map (back and forth a few times, but we will get it nailed down), to Marcellis for his sketch on the "evil" character.

Oh and once the scanner is reinstalled I will get the 6(ish) hours of sketches online for the group to view... so stay posted more to come!!!

And The Train Reloads and Moves On!!

Ok, so after many (atleast 8 or 9) hours of listening to Dueling Banjo's, sketching up ideas 3-4 more hours, and several sleepless (well not entirely sleepless... more of a restless thing I guess) nights... we have decided to drop the Banjos and move on to another project of stronger and more epic proportion....

I am so excited! and maybe even "giddy".... I have spent roughly 4 hours on IM with team members, and 2 1/2 hours on email, and 3 on research for this "new" project. I have also spent about 1 1/2 hours typing and putting together a "notebook" surprise for our team. I can't wait to present it!

I am hoping to have some rough sketches put together for our online meeting on Sun. we will see how the time presents itself.

YEAH! THE TRAIN IS MOVING....

Hopefully this train is moving forward... I spent 2 hours and 15 minutes with the team... or what is left of us... quite fun... I haven't laughed so hard in quite sometime... Hey James I really enjoyed supervising the oil change... very amusing. Ok, so we have a sort of plan, listen to designated song and storyboard over the next week... We will see how well it goes!

MOVING ALONG SLOWLY!!!

Ok, so we are moving aong on the project... slowly but surely!

I took about 1/2 hour downloading and listening to our piece of music.... I also spent about 45 minutes listening to the 2 different versions and came to the conclusion that i like one more then the other.... we will put it to the group and see what happens.

STARTING ONCE AGAIN

OK, I spent roughly 2 hours researching the "look" of Hawaii, and 1.5 hours sketching it up and focusing on color combos..... but we are no longer using Hawaii.... that is actually fine with me. I am just happy to be actively engaged in a worthwhile project. Well, I think I will go listen to "the MOOD music" that has been suggested to accompany our new "NEW PROJECT". Well, we shall see how the progress progresses.........

TIME SPENT

OK, so I think I am going to use this post area to keep tabs on time spent working on this project.... what better way, then to have to try to recall when and where and doing what...Anyways... June 14, I went to one of the smaller local libraries (Everson) and spent 45 minutes tracking down a bunch of books that were NO HELP at all.... so on June 17, I went to the larger library (B'ham) and had four books in hand in 30 minutes... I really miss the OLD SCHOOL library file card systems on looking up books.... kidding sort'a... I have also spent 2 1/2 hours online tracking down images and checking for group updates... mostly images..trying to get the wording right for what you are looking for can be quite an adventure in itself... 30 minutes have been spent doodling to get a feel for what I am looking for in the feel of what I want done... I have had an idea pop into mind about postcards and characters.... must delve into that a bit further... K, LATER.

Getting It All Organized!!

Well, I am trying to get all of my stuff online organized into some sort of ledgible mess!
If anyone out there is even remotely interested... I have several site galleries: They are as follows...

http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=68550 This will be my most active gallery. It is a direct link to my online sketchbook. ENJOY!

http://www.myspace.com/skrunchey This is probably going to be one of my more active site galleries. Most of my friends and family browse through this one.

http://skrunchey.deviantart.com/ This is a site similar to www.conceptart.org but not quite as good in my opinion, but it works.

http://skrunchey.gfxartist.com/artworks This is my GFX site which has some of my 3D stuff and a couple of sketches... I found that it was a bit hard to upload to this site.

Well, for now that is all I have to post.... If you are more curious you can always GOOGLE.. skrunchey. I believe that almost 90% of what comes up in the results is my stuff so have fun browsing!
